Etsy Shop Name Ideas: 100 Names That Pass Etsy's 20-Character Rule
Most Etsy shop name lists have the same flaw: roughly half the names on them cannot be used on Etsy. Etsy enforces hard, published constraints on shop names — a length ceiling, no spaces, no punctuation — and a name like "Petal & Pith" or "Kiln & Co." will simply be rejected at signup. If you have ever fallen in love with a name from a list and then watched Etsy refuse it, that is why.
This guide takes the opposite approach. Every one of the 100 names below has been length-checked and character-checked against Etsy's actual rules before it was published. They are grouped by the niches Etsy sellers actually work in — handmade jewellery, candles, printables, vintage, stickers, crochet and knits, pet products, wedding, bath and body, and art prints. First, the rules themselves, quoted from Etsy.
Etsy's Shop Name Rules, Quoted From Etsy
Etsy's help article How to Change Your Shop Name states the constraint in one sentence: "Shop names can be up to 20 characters long, and they can't have spaces or punctuation." Etsy's Seller Handbook guide Top Tips for Choosing Your Etsy Shop Name, written by Taylor Combs with input from Etsy copywriter Wynne Renz, repeats it: "Your Etsy shop name can't be longer than 20 characters and can't contain spaces or punctuation." Both pages were checked on 27 July 2026.
| Rule | What Etsy publishes | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum length | Up to 20 characters | Count the letters with the spaces removed — "Morning Ritual Jewelry" becomes the 20-character MorningRitualJewelry |
| Spaces | Not allowed | Multi-word names get squashed together, so capitalise each word for legibility |
| Punctuation | Not allowed | No ampersands, apostrophes, hyphens or periods — "Kiln & Co." is out |
| Changes before opening | "You can change your name as often as you like before you open your shop" | Nothing is locked in until you open |
| Changes after opening | "After you've opened your shop, you can instantly change your name one time" | Further changes require a request to Etsy Support |
| Reusing a retired name | "Once a shop name has been used on an open shop, it can't be used again even if the shop it's connected to is closed" | Closed shops do not free up their names — the namespace only shrinks |

Generate Domain Names FreeOne thing worth flagging because it circulates widely: neither Etsy's shop-name help article nor its Seller Handbook naming guide publishes a minimum length. You will see "4 characters minimum" repeated across the web, but as of 27 July 2026 we could not find that figure in Etsy's own documentation, so we are not going to assert it. What Etsy does show is that genuinely short names are fine in practice: the abstract examples Etsy itself highlights include Artemer (7 characters) and Bookhou (7 characters). Plan around the 20-character ceiling, which is documented, rather than a floor that is not.
Why Most Etsy Name Lists Fail Their Own Test
Generic store-name lists are written for Shopify and standalone sites, where anything goes. Drop those names into Etsy's signup form and a large share bounce. These are the patterns that break:
- The ampersand pairing. "Petal & Pith," "Loft & Larch," "Cinder & Sage" — the ampersand is punctuation. Spell it: CinderAndSage works, and it is 13 characters.
- The accented vowel. "Loomé," "Bloomé," "Claspé." The accent reads as punctuation to Etsy's validator. Drop it or pick a different word.
- The "Co." suffix. "Nuzzle Co." and "Facet Co." both die on the period. NuzzleCo and FacetCo are legal.
- The possessive. "Maker's Muse" has an apostrophe. MakersMuse is 10 characters and fine.
- The hyphenated compound. Hyphens are punctuation on Etsy, even though they are legal in a domain name. This is the single most common carry-over mistake from domain brainstorming.
- The overlong descriptive. "Handmade Ceramic Studio Co" is 24 characters with the spaces stripped. Four over the 20-character limit, so the field simply will not accept it — you shorten it or pick another.
Digits are neither spaces nor punctuation, so a name like Studio7 clears the stated rule. Use them sparingly anyway — numbers inside a brand name are hard to communicate out loud, which is the whole point of a shop name.
Etsy's Own Example Shops Show the Shape That Fits
The Seller Handbook lists real shops as naming examples. Displayed with spaces they look like ordinary business names, but strip the spaces — which is what Etsy actually stores — and you can see how tightly they sit inside the ceiling. Two of them land on exactly 20 characters:
| Shop (as Etsy displays it) | As Etsy stores it | Chars | Naming approach |
|---|---|---|---|
| Morning Ritual Jewelry | MorningRitualJewelry | 20 | Suggestive descriptive — right at the limit |
| Waterstone Succulents | WaterstoneSucculents | 20 | Suggestive descriptive — right at the limit |
| Urban Cheesecraft | UrbanCheesecraft | 16 | Suggestive descriptive |
| Curiosity Cabinet | CuriosityCabinet | 16 | Heather Dean's Los Angeles shop, named for cabinets of curiosities |
| Carriage Oak Cottage | CarriageOakCottage | 18 | Kristin Malaer's Raleigh shop, built from two street names |
| Delirium Decor | DeliriumDecor | 13 | Suggestive descriptive |
| Lisa Rupp Design | LisaRuppDesign | 14 | Eponymous plus a category word |
| Littionary | Littionary | 10 | Abstract coinage |
| Avrocomy | Avrocomy | 8 | Abstract coinage |
| Bookhou | Bookhou | 7 | Arounna Khounnoraj and John Booth blended their surnames |
Etsy's own advice on the squash-together problem is to use capitals: it gives HouseOfBalticLinen (18 characters) as easier to read than "houseofbalticlinen." Every name below follows that convention, because that is how it will render in your shop URL and on your listings.
Handmade Jewellery Shop Names
Jewellery naming reaches for light, metal, and rarity — but "Gem," "Lux," and "Diamond" are exhausted. Metal roots, celestial words, and craft verbs give you more room, and they compress well once the spaces come out.
| Shop name | Chars | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| GlintAndGrain | 13 | Shine plus a material texture |
| SolenaMetals | 12 | Sun root plus the category |
| BrasselStudio | 13 | Brass root, soft suffix, maker framing |
| StarcutJewelry | 14 | Celestial word plus a real diamond-cutting term |
| OpalineForge | 12 | Gemstone-adjacent plus a making verb |
| TrinketryCo | 11 | Old-world real word, legal without the period |
| HaloRowStudio | 13 | Glow plus a boutique-street cue |
| AdornaMade | 10 | "Adorn" plus an explicit handmade signal |
| FacetAndFold | 12 | Two craft verbs, alliterative |
| GildedCrowShop | 14 | Luxe verb against an unexpected noun |
Candle Shop Names
Candles sell scent, warmth, and slowness. Fire words, wax words, and botanical pairings all work. Keep it short — candle labels are small, and the name has to survive being printed on a 6cm tin.
| Shop name | Chars | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| EmberAndOak | 11 | Fire plus wood, the core candle pairing |
| WickwellCo | 10 | Craft noun plus a reassurance suffix |
| SlowBurnStudio | 14 | Literal product truth used as positioning |
| HollowpineWax | 13 | Rustic compound plus the material |
| CinderAndSage | 13 | Smoke plus herb — the ampersand version spelled out |
| SootheWick | 10 | Benefit verb plus product noun |
| TallowAndTide | 13 | Traditional wax plus coastal imagery |
| WarmgrainWax | 12 | Sensory plus texture plus category |
| LumenLittle | 11 | Light root plus a diminutive, good for small-batch |
| HearthlyCandles | 15 | Cozy coinage plus a searchable category word |
Printables and Digital Download Shop Names
Digital shops have a naming problem the physical ones do not: nothing is tactile. Lean on paper and ink imagery anyway — buyers still print these — or on the organising benefit, which is what planner and template buyers are actually paying for.
| Shop name | Chars | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| PrintableNest | 13 | Category word plus a warm noun, strong on-platform search cue |
| InkAndIndex | 11 | Print plus organisation, alliterative |
| PixelPantry | 11 | Digital plus a stocked-shelf metaphor |
| TheTemplateFox | 14 | Category plus an animal mascot you can illustrate |
| PaperlessPetal | 14 | Digital-first stated plainly, softened |
| GridAndGrace | 12 | Layout term plus aesthetic promise |
| DownloadDaisy | 13 | Delivery method plus a friendly name |
| PlannerlyCo | 11 | Niche root plus adverb suffix |
| MarginAndMuse | 13 | Page anatomy plus creativity |
| SwiftPrintables | 15 | Speed plus category — instant delivery is the selling point |
Vintage Shop Names
Vintage names should sound like they have been around a while. Age words, wear words, and place words all read authentic. Avoid pinning yourself to one decade unless you genuinely only sell that decade — Etsy lets you change the name once after opening, and no more without a support request.
| Shop name | Chars | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| SecondSpring | 12 | Second life, reframed as renewal not resale |
| RelicRowVintage | 15 | Age noun plus street cue plus category |
| PatinaAndPine | 13 | The exact word collectors use for age on metal |
| ThriftedThings | 14 | Plain, honest, alliterative |
| OldSoulSupply | 13 | Buyer identity rather than product description |
| FoundOnFriday | 13 | Implies a weekly drop, builds a return habit |
| WornWellVintage | 15 | Wear treated as a feature |
| AtticAndAcre | 12 | Two sourcing places, indoor and outdoor |
| RustAndRosewood | 15 | Metal plus wood, industrial plus warm |
| MidcenturyMoth | 14 | Era term plus an unexpected noun that keeps it brandable |
Sticker Shop Names
Sticker shops live on personality and volume. Short, bouncy, slightly silly names outperform serious ones here, and they leave room for the category word if you want the on-platform search signal.
| Shop name | Chars | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| StickAndSprout | 14 | Product verb plus growth imagery |
| PeelPress | 9 | The two physical actions, alliterative and very short |
| VinylAndVerse | 13 | Material plus wordplay for quote stickers |
| GlossyGoose | 11 | Finish type plus a mascot animal |
| StickerSparrow | 14 | Category plus bird, alliterative |
| MattePocket | 11 | The other finish type, plus portability |
| TinyTackShop | 12 | Size plus attach verb |
| DecalDenCo | 10 | Trade term plus cozy space |
| PeelPetal | 9 | Action plus botanical, ideal for floral designs |
| StickerlyStudio | 15 | Category plus adverb suffix plus maker framing |
Crochet and Knitting Shop Names
Yarn shops sell time as much as product. Technique words (purl, skein, hook, loop) signal to other makers that you know the craft, and they double as keywords buyers actually type.
| Shop name | Chars | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| LoopAndLichen | 13 | Stitch term plus a mossy natural word |
| SlowStitchYarn | 14 | Anti-fast-fashion positioning plus material |
| HookAndHollow | 13 | Crochet tool plus place, alliterative |
| PurlPine | 8 | Knit stitch plus tree — eight characters, very ownable |
| WoollyWren | 10 | Material plus small bird |
| SkeinAndStone | 13 | Insider yarn unit plus a grounding noun |
| CrochetCrow | 11 | Craft plus bird, strong on-platform search cue |
| KnotAndKettle | 13 | Technique plus a tea-and-crafting mood |
| YarnFolkStudio | 14 | Material plus community plus maker framing |
| StitchwellKnits | 15 | Craft verb plus reassurance plus category |
Pet Product Shop Names
Pet buyers are emotional and tribal. Puns land here in a way they do not in most niches — but keep the name species-flexible if you might expand from dog collars to cat beds later.
| Shop name | Chars | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| PawvanaPets | 11 | "Paw" plus nirvana, plus the category |
| SnoutfitShop | 12 | Pun on outfit, memorable, apparel-ready |
| BarkeryTreats | 13 | Bark plus bakery — the clearest treat-shop pun there is |
| MewtopiaGoods | 13 | Cat utopia, unmistakably feline |
| TailwiseCo | 10 | Smart plus tail, species-neutral |
| WaggleWorks | 11 | Joy verb plus workshop |
| PawfolkStudio | 13 | Community framing plus maker framing |
| WhiskertonCo | 12 | Cat root plus a place suffix |
| FetchlyGoods | 12 | Dog action plus adverb suffix |
| CritterlyMade | 13 | Catch-all animal word plus handmade signal |
Wedding Shop Names
Wedding is one of Etsy's most competitive categories, and most of the obvious names went years ago. Ritual objects (veil, vow, aisle, confetti, rice) give you more distinctive raw material than "bridal" plus an adjective.
| Shop name | Chars | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| VeilAndVow | 10 | Two ceremony nouns, alliterative, short |
| SomethingSprig | 14 | Riffs on "something blue" with a botanical twist |
| AisleAndOak | 11 | Venue plus material |
| ConfettiAndCo | 13 | Celebration noun, legal once the period is dropped |
| LinenAndLace | 12 | Two fabrics that define the category |
| TheVowWorkshop | 14 | Ceremony noun plus maker framing |
| EverAfterPaper | 14 | Fairytale phrase plus stationery category |
| BridalBirch | 11 | Category plus tree, alliterative |
| RiceAndRibbon | 13 | Two send-off objects |
| FirstDanceCo | 12 | The single most photographed moment of the day |
Bath and Body Shop Names
Soap, bath bombs, and balms sell ritual and ingredient honesty. Water words, botanical roots, and texture words all work; anything that sounds clinical undercuts the handmade positioning that brings buyers to Etsy in the first place.
| Shop name | Chars | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| BareglowBath | 12 | Clean-beauty compound plus category |
| SudsAndSage | 11 | Soap plus herb, alliterative |
| BalmAndBirch | 12 | Product form plus tree |
| SoakSociety | 11 | Ritual verb plus community suffix |
| HoneyrueBody | 12 | Warm botanical compound plus category |
| LatherAndLoam | 13 | Soap action plus earthiness |
| SaltAndSteam | 12 | Two bath-house nouns |
| ClaySoapCo | 10 | Ingredient-forward and completely literal |
| DewlitSkin | 10 | Dew plus lit — glow compressed into one word |
| SoftScienceBath | 15 | Tension pairing for a formulation-led shop |
Art Print Shop Names
Print shops are judged on taste before product. Printing-process words (riso, press, gouache, ochre) do a lot of work here because they signal you know the medium, and they read as gallery rather than gift shop.
| Shop name | Chars | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| InkAndIsle | 10 | Medium plus place, alliterative |
| PaperPlumeArt | 13 | Substrate plus quill plus category |
| TheQuietPress | 13 | Mood plus printing term — reads like a small imprint |
| OchreAndOak | 11 | Pigment name plus wood |
| FramedFolk | 10 | Format plus people, warm and unpretentious |
| RisoAndRoam | 11 | Risograph printing plus wandering |
| GouacheGoose | 12 | Medium plus mascot, alliterative |
| PrintAndPetal | 13 | Category plus botanical, for floral work |
| StudioSlowLight | 15 | Maker framing plus a photographic quality of light |
| WallflowerPress | 15 | Wall art pun plus printing term |
The Name You Want Is Probably Already Retired
Treat every name above as a pattern, not a reservation. Etsy's namespace behaves unlike a domain registry: it never recycles. Etsy states that "once a name has been used—either as a shop name or username—it can't be used again," and its help centre adds that this holds "even if the shop it's connected to is closed." Two decades of usernames and closed shops sit permanently on top of the available pool, which is why a name with no visible shop behind it can still come back unavailable.
The practical consequence is that you need a long list, not a favourite. Etsy's own advice from Wynne Renz is to "spend 70% of your time exploring and 30% of your time editing down your options." Generate forty candidates that all fit the 20-character rule, then start checking.
What Namilio Can and Cannot Do for an Etsy Shop Name
Be clear on this before you use any naming tool, ours included. Namilio does not check Etsy shop name availability, and it cannot: Etsy has no public shop-name lookup, so the only place that answer exists is inside Etsy's own shop-creation flow. Etsy says so directly in the Seller Handbook: "To find out whether your desired name is available on Etsy, you have to type it in during the shop creation process and click 'Check Availability.'" There is no API, no bulk checker, and no third-party workaround.
- What Namilio checks: domain availability across 21 TLDs, including .com, .shop, and .store, live as names are generated.
- What Namilio does not check: Etsy shop-name availability, Etsy usernames, state business registries, or social media handles. Premium adds a preliminary trademark conflict scan across 200+ offices — an early warning, not a clearance search.
- Who checks Etsy: only Etsy, via the Check Availability button in the shop-creation flow.
- Who checks trademarks: the USPTO trademark search in the US, or your national trademark office elsewhere — advice Etsy itself gives in the same handbook article.
So the workflow is two-tool, not one-tool: generate and domain-filter a shortlist, then take that shortlist to Etsy and check each one manually. Our guide to checking whether a business name is available covers the trademark and registry layers in more depth.
Setting Up the Generator for Etsy-Legal Names
Namilio's settings map onto Etsy's constraints almost exactly, which means you can make it produce nothing but usable candidates instead of filtering by hand:
- Set Max Length to 20. The slider on the settings step tops out at 20 characters, which is Etsy's exact ceiling. Any two-word result only gets shorter once you delete the space, so 20 here guarantees an Etsy-legal length.
- Turn Hyphens off in Allowed Characters. Hyphens are fine in a domain and forbidden on Etsy — this is the setting that stops the mismatch at the source.
- Leave Letters on and decide on Numbers. Digits pass Etsy's stated rule but weaken a spoken brand name, so most sellers should leave them off.
- Pick a style that suits the niche. Brandable and compound work for abstract names like Avrocomy or Bookhou; real-words and evocative suit the suggestive-descriptive pattern behind Urban Cheesecraft.
- Add your craft words as keywords — "soy, ember, small batch" for candles, "riso, botanical, print" for art. Three to five is enough.
- Filter the results by open domain, save eight to ten, then check every one of them on Etsy before you get attached.
Open the generator, set the length cap to 20, and run a batch. If you are also planning a standalone site alongside the shop, the ecommerce name generator and store name generator pages cover the wider retail case where Etsy's character rules do not apply.
Check the Domain Even If You Only Sell on Etsy
This feels like overkill when your entire business is one Etsy storefront. It is not, for three reasons. First, Etsy owns your shop URL — etsy.com/shop/yourname is a page on someone else's site, and you cannot take it with you. Second, if your shop works, someone will register the matching .com and you will be renting your own brand back. Third, Etsy explicitly recommends securing the same name across your other channels: the Seller Handbook's "Get social" advice is to use the same name on your blog and social profiles so buyers can find you, and a domain is the same argument one step further.
A .com typically runs about $10-15 a year — the cost of renewing roughly fifty listings, and cheap next to losing the name later. Here is how the realistic options compare for a handmade seller:
| Extension | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| .com | The default people type; worth taking if it is open | Most contested — an eight-character coinage stands a much better chance than a two-word descriptive |
| .shop | Retail-clear and far more likely to be free for a good name | Less ingrained than .com for older buyers |
| .store | Same role as .shop, sometimes available when .shop is not | One character longer than .shop, and less established |
| .co | Short fallback that still reads commercial | Traffic can leak to the .com twin |
| .art | Print, illustration, and fine-craft shops | Not in Namilio's 21-TLD check — you would verify this one at a registrar |
Because Etsy strips spaces anyway, an Etsy-legal name is already in domain shape: PurlPine is both a valid shop name and purlpine.com with no translation needed. That is a real advantage of naming for Etsy's constraints first and the domain second.
Changing Your Shop Name Later
You are not locked in, but the budget is tighter than most people assume. Etsy allows unlimited changes before you open. After opening, per the Seller Handbook, "you can instantly change your name one time" — beyond that you have to submit a request to Etsy Support. If you do change it, Etsy's help centre says the following happens:
- Your shop URL changes, and links to the old name automatically redirect to the new one.
- Your previous name is blocked from other sellers rather than released.
- An icon appears next to your shop name on your shop pages, profile, and in shop search results for 45 days, telling buyers the name changed.
- Nothing else updates itself — Etsy tells you to manually revise your shop icon, banner, announcement, and About section if they mention the old name.
That 45-day flag and the manual cleanup are exactly why the ten minutes of checking before you open is worth more than the one free change afterwards.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many characters can an Etsy shop name be?
Up to 20. Etsy's help article How to Change Your Shop Name states: "Shop names can be up to 20 characters long, and they can't have spaces or punctuation." Count with the spaces removed, because that is how Etsy stores the name — "Morning Ritual Jewelry" is stored as MorningRitualJewelry, exactly 20 characters. Etsy does not truncate an over-length name for you; it rejects it. Checked against Etsy's help centre on 27 July 2026.
Can an Etsy shop name have spaces or an ampersand?
No to both. Etsy bans spaces and punctuation in shop names, and the ampersand is punctuation — so "Cinder & Sage" is rejected while CinderAndSage is accepted. The same rule kills apostrophes ("Maker's Muse"), periods ("Facet Co."), hyphens, and accented characters. Etsy's own guidance is to use capital letters to separate words instead, giving HouseOfBalticLinen rather than houseofbalticlinen.
Can Namilio check if an Etsy shop name is available?
No. Namilio checks domain availability across 21 TLDs. It does not check Etsy shop names, Etsy usernames, or social handles; on Premium it also screens names against live trademark records across 200+ offices, which is a preliminary conflict scan rather than a clearance search. Etsy shop-name availability is only visible inside Etsy's own shop-creation flow. Etsy's Seller Handbook is explicit: "To find out whether your desired name is available on Etsy, you have to type it in during the shop creation process and click 'Check Availability.'" Use a generator to build a shortlist of Etsy-legal candidates, then check each one on Etsy yourself.
Why is my Etsy shop name unavailable when no shop is using it?
Because Etsy never recycles names. Etsy states that "once a name has been used—either as a shop name or username—it can't be used again," and its help centre confirms this applies "even if the shop it's connected to is closed." Usernames count against the same pool, so a name can be gone without any visible storefront attached to it. Etsy's suggested workaround for an established brand is to add a word like "Studio" or "Design," or to use a shortened version of your existing name.
How many times can I change my Etsy shop name?
As often as you like before you open the shop. After opening, Etsy's Seller Handbook says you can instantly change it one time, and any further change requires a request to Etsy Support. A change rewrites your shop URL (old links redirect), permanently blocks other sellers from your old name, and displays a name-changed icon next to your shop for 45 days. You also have to update your shop icon, banner, announcement, and About section yourself.
Do I need a domain if I only sell on Etsy?
You do not need one to trade, but it is cheap insurance. Your etsy.com/shop/yourname URL belongs to Etsy and cannot move with you if you ever add a standalone site or leave the platform, and a name worth having is a name someone else may register. Because Etsy already forces a no-spaces, no-punctuation name, your shop name is domain-shaped by default — PurlPine works as both. Namilio checks .com, .shop, .store and 18 other extensions in one pass while it generates.
